Castello di Brolio – Chianti
Known to be the oldest winery in Italy. The estate is owned and operated by the Ricasoli family since 1141, this winery has an incredibly rich and interesting history which can be read on their website. They produce over 8 different DOCG or IGT red wines as well as 2 whites, a Rosé, and a Vin Santo. The reds include 2 DOCG Chianti Classico’s and 2 Reserves.
To Tour: The winery offers various different types of tours: winery tours, castle tours, special sunset tours, and more. Each different tour is explained (and bookings can be made) through their website. You also have the option to just enjoy a simple tasting of some of the wines at their wine shop.
Allison Says: “Castello di Brolio is a must see if you are planning to visit the Chianti area. The castle itself is breathtaking and the surrounding Ricasoli vineyards are some of the most impressive I have seen. If you don’t have time to tour the castle you can drive up the the castle just to see it and then taste their wines in the wine shop.”
