Castello di Verrazzano in Chianti
Castello di Verrazzano is one of the most famous wineries in the Chianti area. It has a very rich history dating back to 1150. It was home to the explorer Giovanni Verrazzno who discovered the bay of New York. Now owned and operated by the Ridolfi family the estate has over 42 hectares of vineyards and produce 5 different red wines including a Chianti Classico DOCG and a Reserve along with a Rosé, 2 white wines and 2 vin santos. Their wines have been featured in Wine Spectator and have won several prestigious awards.
Tours: Wine tours are offered every day Monday to Friday. They offer several different options from a classic tour and tasting to tours followed by lunch. You can read and book your tour through their website. (They respond to emails very quick!)
They also have a wine shop located on the the main road (SR 222) just below where you turn to go to the castle. You can taste and purchase products there.
Allison Says: “It is one of my favorite wineries to tour. I love the history of the estate and the guides are always so nice and they really make you feel welcome. It is a winery that truly cares about the quality of their products; the Verrazzano wines are excellent and after you have visited the estate you will understand why.”
